ST. LOUIS, MO, August 04, 2011 /Human Resources PR News/ -- The Materials Technology Institute recently named Jim Macki an MTI Fellow. Macki served on MTI's Board of Directors in 1979 and, after a hiatus from the organization, became an Associate Director in 1995. Macki, who holds a PhD in Materials Engineering from The Ohio State University, retired from The Dow Chemical Company in 1995 after 27 years' service in a variety of materials engineering and management roles. As Executive Director since 1998, he has helped guide MTI's growth and other important goals set forth in its Strategic Plan.

In 2000, MTI began recognizing individuals who have been instrumental in the development and progression of the organization over a period of at least 10 years. Macki was the 12th member to be elected to its prestigious roster of Fellows.

"Being a Fellow is the highest honor MTI can bestow upon an individual, which is why there are so few despite all the talented and committed people that have touched the organization since its inception," says Ed Naylor, MTI Chair. "Jim Macki has humbly guided MTI through turmoil, economic instability and good times with fervor and grace such that the organization continues to thrive and demonstrate excellent value for membership. MTI Fellows are those who demonstrate exceedingly high commitment to the health, well-being and future of MTI and the principles for which it stands."

Macki's many achievements include overseeing the organization's expansion into Europe and Asia. "MTI members and staff continuously solve engineering problems globally," he reports, sharing credit for the accomplishments. "MTI has grown globally in recent years mainly because of the willingness of the members to adjust to other cultures. I am especially proud of how we were able to figure out how to service our members in China and Asia."

"It is all too easy to take a quiet contributor like Jim for granted," concludes former Chair Gary Whittaker, a Materials Engineering Fellow at Eastman Chemical Company. "I thought, in this case, he should be recognized while he is still an active part of MTI."

Macki embraces the job and the opportunities that lie ahead. MTI's newest Fellow is having the time of his life contributing to the organization and watching it continue to grow as an important materials engineering resource for processing industry companies around the world.
